About Us
Who We Are!
Now that you have read through our "official" descriptions, allow me to introduce us on a personal level.
Joshua is a movie buff, Harry Potter fan and self-proclaimed nerd who loves fantasy and sci-fi His favorite holiday is Halloween, when he decorates his home to resemble the inside of a witch's kitchen or a psychic's den. And you should see his house at Christmas. He transforms it into a stunning winter wonderland of white and silver or a marvelous teal (his favorite color ) and silver Christmas display.
Though he is an introvert at heart, Joshua has an uncanny ability to instantly connect with people and make them feel at ease. He is funny, witty and can converse on a wide range of topics, so there is never any trouble carrying on a conversation with him.
Oh, and don't forget, he's a creative genius! His style is versatile and dynamic, yet also cohesive from one design to another. No matter what he does or how different it looks from his previous work, it is always easy to spot his unique influence in any design. And he loves to personalize his designs so that they truly reflect and belong to the client.
I am an outgoing and talkative extrovert and a nerd of a different type. I"m a student at heart, always looking to learn new things and find new ways to grow. I drive Joshua nuts sometimes with my questions....but how else do you learn, right? I'm family oriented (and Joshua is family to me), and I have two grown sons, an "adopted" son and two daughters, as well as a grandson and five "aodpted" grandchildren, whom I love dearly.
I am a music lover and avid concert goer, and I'm learning to play the piano, very slowly! That's my creative side, but I have an analytical side that loves economics, management and business strategy. I love to read, with historical fiction, true crime, self-improvement and business management/strategy books topping my list of favorite reading material.
Event planning is my favorite of the jobs I've held in my life. When we set up an event, I'm always responsible for the balloons, so I've always got my back to the room during the set up. My favorite part of this job is turning around when I finish with the balloons and everything is set up and seeing what Joshua has done with the room. He tops himself every time and I am always in awe of his talent and the beauty that he creates. It gives me goosebumps every time.
Where It All Started
We got our start in a car on the way home from a Sam Smith concert in Nashville. Joshua had been informally planning events, mostly weddings, for decades, and he was ready for a change from his daily grind. I had a successful busines already and was looking for a new venture. So, after years of telling him that he needed to capitalize on his talent and start an event planning business, he finally listened to me. We decided to partner together and give it a go, and Perfectly Planned Events was born.
We started slow because, depsite his experience, he had very few photos to verify it. So, we began with a portfolio, which is still very much a work in progress. We did three of our first four events completely pro-bono, including purchasing all of the decor for them. We selected some of the finenst venues in the River Valley, partly to improve the portfolio and partly to establish relationships with the venues.
At first, we worked from Joshua's 930 square foot home. Can you imagine designing an event for 200+ people in that space? Well, we did it, and it was fabulous. He sacrificed his home. I sacrificed my home time, and we both sacrificed a lot of sleep for this business about which we are so passionate. It has been well worth it, as we love every minute of it!
Let’s get started
Now that you have a feel for who we are and what we do, let's get to work planning an unforgettable event for you or your organization. We very much look forward to working with you.
